During the Warzone MetalFest vs. 6K Fest, Metal Overload was able to exchange some words with Rok, the singer of the slam band Within Destruction which comes from Slovenia.

Could you introduce us the band in a few words ?

Yeah. So, we are Within Destruction. We come from Slovenia and we have been playing for eight years now.

And how would you define your sound?

Yeah, we kind of label ourselves as slam because a lot of people think of us in that way. People like slam. We are not that big, and this label gives us more promotion

What can you tell me about the so-called “slam police”?

It was actually a joke that our drummer posted, I don’t know maybe two years ago, and it just kind of “snowballed” into this big thing that everyone now seems to like cop on and yeah, we did a music video about it and it just went mainstream and viral and it’s been going well for us so far.

What inspires you to create your music and your video clips?

First, for the music what inspires us. I don’t know we’re just kind of try to pick like the best parts of each genre and kind of smash them together and make music that’s kind of well within the structure.

For the music videos, we kind of want to do the opposite of what most metal bands are doing. We just want to do something different, something that’s enjoyable, something that’s fun because we don’t see the point of doing music If we cannot have fun with it. We are kind of brainstorming like “Oh should we do this or do that. That sounds fun. Yeah, let’s do that.” And we just go for it.

What can you tell me about your album “Deathwish” ?

Yeah, Deathwish was a pretty long project. Both of our guitarist doesn’t write music, so we had to find a new guitarist to write music for us and that took quite a while. Once we found him it took about, I don’t know maybe half a year or even more to write and record everything. So, it was a pretty long process, but it was time well spent. I think we’ve done a really good job.

What are you plans for 2019?

Today is the last date of our European tour after that we will go home for one month. And then in April we’re doing a U.S. tour with “Lorna Shore”, “Bodysnatcher” and “Enterprise Earth” and after that we have got a couple of exclusive shows around Europe

We are going to do something in Slovenia like small festival and after that we are pretty much going to start recording for our new album which is probably going to be released next year.

What would be your dream tour ? With whom and maybe where ?

That’s a really good question. The thing is we kind of try to go away from the metal scene. I mean, obviously it would be awesome to tour with big bands like Whitechapel, Oceano, Despised Icon or something like that. But we are kind of trying to incorporate different genres into our music and maybe we, I don’t know, are going to try to tour with Ghostmane or something like that. Ghostmane is kind of putting out music that is between rap and metal and we are of trying to incorporate some of that rap into our metal so maybe we will find like a bridge between those two songs and maybe we could do tours together with bands like that.

What is the craziest thing that happened on tour ?

The craziest thing that happened to me was that a girl tattooed my name on her body.

How did you feel about that ?

I still don’t know how I feel about that. It was pretty crazy. Yeah.

I leave you the last words of this interview.

Keep on listening to metal music, support metal music, buy merch for the bands. And yeah keep the metal scene alive. That’s it.
